Mark Schaer
Creative Director
I’m a hands-on creative leader with deep experience building cohesive brand systems—bringing together strategy, identity, digital design, and marketing to create unified, high-impact experiences across channels. I’ve had the privilege of collaborating with both iconic and emerging clients, as well as partnering with some of the nation’s most respected creative studios and cultural institutions.
Currently, I’m spearheading the creation and execution of the brand identity, strategy, and voice for HK Lighting, a premium outdoor lighting manufacturer. My focus is on delivering a cohesive and compelling experience across a new website, e-commerce platform, and a range of marketing initiatives, including in-person events.
At Linksys, I played a key leadership role in elevating the in-house creative function and bringing a new brand identity—developed by Bruce Mau Design—to life across all touchpoints. As Creative Director for Global Marketing, I led the redesign of the website, launched integrated campaigns, refreshed the Amazon storefront, and oversaw product launches, packaging, video content, social media, and sales enablement. I also built and managed a diverse team of in-house and freelance creatives, fostering a collaborative, high-performing culture.
I initially joined DMF Lighting as a consultant, collaborating with key decision-makers to refresh and unify the brand. This role evolved into an in-house Creative Director position, where I led the brand through a period of transformative change. By implementing a cohesive strategic vision, I repositioned DMF from a commodity brand to a recognized leader in engineering and design innovation. Overseeing all creative output, I built and led a talented international team, helping to establish DMF as one of the most successful and influential names in the lighting industry.
As Schaer Design, I partnered with C-suite executives and founders across healthcare, SaaS, social media, solar power, education, financial services, and manufacturing to craft authentic brand narratives and digital experiences that drive meaningful differentiation and growth. Additionally, I led the user experience and creative vision for multiple museum website redesigns, including The Noguchi Museum, the National Museum of the American Indian, MOCA Cleveland, and the Smithsonian Institution.
Prior to that, I held positions as Design Director for Salt Branding, Creative Director at Fluid (a digital agency focused on e-commerce), Creative Director at Razorfish, Design Director at Deutsche Bank, and Art Director at Young & Rubicam.
My career began in New York City, where I worked as a designer for Condé Nast Publications and as a studio assistant to the photographer Richard Avedon. I studied design with Milton Glaser at the School of Visual Arts and graduated with distinction from the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California.
Throughout my career, I've cultivated a deep understanding of the ever-evolving landscape of design and technology, blending creativity with strategic insight to deliver memorable brand experiences that connect with audiences worldwide. My experience has taught me how to ignite bold thinking, harness my team’s strengths, and align design with business objectives to create work that resonates and performs. I’m passionate about fostering a creative environment where experimentation thrives, and optimism fuels innovation.

I'd love to hear from you.
